The New York Yankees are among the most successful teams in any US sport. With 40 American League titles and 27 World Series in their trophy cabinet, their track record is long and impressive.

The New York Yankees have a huge following and will consistently rank high in MLB betting, no matter what. However, like any other team, some seasons have been better than others, and in their history, there are some team line-ups that simply stand out.

Here’s a look at three of the best New York Yankees teams to take to the field.

1927

Dig back long into the past, and you'll find one of the most impressive Yankees' performances of all time. In 1927, they won 110 out of their 154 games, losing just 44 to notch up a win rate of 0.714.

Not only did they maintain an impressive record over the season, but they also picked up the World Series, beating Pittsburgh Pirates to the title. Known as Murderer's Row because of their line-up of impressive players, their team included Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, Earl Combs, Waite Hoyt, Tony Lazzeri and Herb Pennock.

These six players were to go on to appear in the Hall of Fame and are integral to the wide-held belief that the 1927 was the best Yankees line-up of all time.

1998

Fast forward to 1998, and here's another MLB team that many believe is right up there with the 1927 crew.

The 1998 season for the Yankees produced the most wins out of any Yankees team to date. With 114 wins and 48 losses, their opponents just couldn't keep up with their blistering form. However, despite winning more than the 1927 team, they also lost a few more, too, so their win average was marginally lower at 0.704 - still very impressive!

Joe Torre picked up his second Manager of the Year award, and the team also collected another World Series, beating the San Diego Padres.

This season is often talked about more often than 1927 because it's within living memory, and older MLB fans may remember watching the team's scintillating performance firsthand.

2009

There have been many other top candidates for the best three Yankees' line-up, such as 1036 when Joe DiMaggio made his debut or 1953 when they won five titles in a row. However, 2009 was particularly special as the Yankees moved into a new stadium and also clinched a title for the first time in nine years.

A dry spell with no wins had been demanding for the team, but manager Joe Girardi in his third year, finally helped the Yankees to take the title with a record of 103-59 and a win percentage of 0.636.

They beat the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series, winning it for the first time since 2000 when they were victorious under the leadership of Joe Torre. Hideki Matsui was one of their top players, collecting the award for World Series MVP and hitting 0.271 and 28 home runs.

Another reason that 2009 is so important is that it marks the last time the Yankees won a world series. It’s now been 11 years - and counting! - so Yankees fans will be hoping they don’t have to wait too much longer!
