The biggest basketball show in the world, the NBA, features dozens of superstars. Every team has at least one, making the NBA the most star-studded basketball league in the world. Nothing comes close to it – not even the Euroleague. And, while most of the superstars come from the USA, there have been quite a few fantastic international players over the years.
International NBA recognition didn’t stop with Dirk Nowitzki. Widely hailed as one of the top foreign players in the history of the NBA, Nowitzki now has a successor at the Mavs in Luka Doncic. Doncic may end up becoming the face of the NBA, but other stars are just as good as him.
In just a few seasons, the NBA has turned into a league run by international players. Without further ado, we present to you the best international players in the NBA right now.
Who would have thought that the next international NBA star would come so soon after Dirk? Luka Doncic arrived just as Nowitzki was on his way out of the league, and from the looks of it, he may even surpass the German. He’s a brilliant guard with incredible vision and a scorer the league hasn’t seen for years. He’s a walking triple-double threat every time he steps on the court, and he’ll be one of the international greats for sure.
Will Embiid win the MVP award this year? He surely deserves it. The Cameroonian center is having the time of his life in Philadelphia now that his ex-running mate Ben Simmons is out. With James Harden, Embiid has created a formidable duo that can tear through any defence. He's among the leading scorers this year and will remain an MVP forerunner in the future.
Embiid is good, but Jokic is on a different level this year. He leads the league in triple-doubles and is a lethal scorer and rebounder. His vision on the court is incomparable to other centers now and in the past. With 75 triple-doubles in total behind his name, he has a legit case of topping Westbook on that list.
Here’s a guy that’s flying under the radar while posting impressive stats. One of the things fans often forget or overlook when it comes to Sabonis is how efficient he is. He’ll have a 20-15 game on just 10-12 shots on a good night, which is something even the best rarely achieve. Unfortunately, he’s not been on a winning team for years. A contender that snatches Sabonis and surrounds him with the right players will be a lethal team for sure.
Giannis is probably the best player in the world right now. He just won the league and the MVP Finals award last year, and he's aiming for it again this year. His size and basketball IQ are simply too good to be ignored, and it's safe to say no one can guard him. The Greek Freak is only 27, so time is on his side, and so is athleticism. As long as he's healthy, he'll run the league for years.
