Sunday night was dedicated to the Cardinal’s big boys to show what they have! Much to everyone’s delight, they rose up to the occasion and some more! In fact, they won by 15-6, and it wasn’t even that close up until the very last second of the encounter.

Wainwright and Molina

The Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright started on the pitching, with Yadier Molina at the plate, a duo that’s today, in several ways, the most productive combination in the history of the MLB.

With that, Wainwright and Molina have now won 203 games for the Cardinals, surpassing a long time record held by Del Crandall and Waren Spahn! From 1949 to 1963, Crandall and Spahn won the Braves 202 games.

Albert Pujols

For Albert Pujols, it was his 2,988th regular-season game appearance, a significant milestone for the future Hall of Famer. Moreover, Pujols has made appearances in 86 playoff games, and following the Cardinals’ rout of the Giants on Sunday, it was the first time we saw Pujols pitching.

Based on the results, it went all downhill from there. Albert Pujols eventually managed to get three outs. However, not before allowing a three-run homer, alongside another home run.

Despite this, Pujols managed a 15-6 victory for the Cardinals!

Focus On Fun

The attention wasn’t much about Pujol’s style of pitching, but on whether he pitched at all. The focus was on having fun, and nothing to do with performance. The match had already ended. In retrospect, the three Cardinals’ elder statesmen were given the opportunity to shine throughout this game. Here’s how:

  • Adam Wainwright was making a return from the injured list of players and had a no-hitter proceeding for 4 2/3 innings. Wainwright managed the win, moving to 4-3, making it 188th of his career. With seven starts in his 17th season, the 40-year-old now has 1.23 WHIP and a 3.15 ERA.
  • 39-year-old Yadier Molina is in his 19th year playing for the Cardinals. Molina went 2-for-3 with a home run, and managed four RBIs. As you may remember, we’ve already stated the record set by Wainwright and Molina.
  • Unlike Wainwright and Molina, Albert Pujols took a long break from St. Louis during his career, though he’s now back in what appears to be his final season with the Cardinals. Pujols went 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, and an RBI.

Veterans Night

Everything began on Sunday Night with Adam Wainwright featuring on the mound, Albert Pujols at DH, and Yadier Molina behind the plate. It was a night to remember for those who attended and those who watched the encounter from home when it concluded with Albert Pujols on the mound.

Now, many are waiting to see how the three veterans will perform for the remainder of the season.
